Class of 1963
Winnie the Pooh
It is hard to believe that 60 years ago we graduated from Agnes Scott. Our 60th reunion will be held May 19-22, 2023. Take time now to check your calendar and mark the dates. It is always fun to get together with “old” friends to remember the events and activities of our time together 60 years ago, to catch up on what has happened since, and to make new memories.
Our Reunion Committee, chaired by Anne Miller Boyd, has been busy planning our weekend and especially our Class Party on Saturday evening. Our Fund Chair, Sandy Johnson Barrow is enthusiastically working to ensure that we take home a trophy for percentage of donors to the “Fund for Agnes Scott” (AKA, the “Annual Fund”) and are competitive for the total amount contributed. Remember that we took home all the trophies for our 50th Reunion and can do it again! Mary Beth Thomas is working diligently to be sure our email and snail mail addresses are complete and correct. Stokie Cumming Mitchell and I fall in and help where needed. So you see, a lot of preparation is underway to ensure a memorable 60th reunion. You do not want to miss it.
As mentioned in my earlier letter, the college will have dorm rooms available to rent so that you can stay on campus the entire weekend to participate in all the events more easily and have more time to reconnect with friends. You can reserve a room when you register.
Your class officers are in the planning stage for another Zunion (Zoom Reunion), which Mary Beth will email you about soon. If you have questions about the events or arrangements for the 60th Reunion, Zoom with us to get answers or email me: gjpylant@gmail.com.
Registration for the weekend opens March 10th at agnesscottalumnaeweekend.com. Early bird registration ends March 20th and regular registration ends April 10th. You can also find a calendar of events for the weekend at this site.
I look forward to seeing you at Agnes Scott in May.
Safe travel,
Gloria Ellis Pylant
President
I write to you with amazement that 60 years have past since we graduated from Agnes Scott. Our 60th Class Reunion is scheduled for May 19-22, 2023. Anne Miller Boyd is our Reunion Chair and is busy making plans for our reunion. Sandy Johnson Barrow is “spot on” as our Fund Chair. Mary Beth Thomas continues to do an outstanding job as our Secretary and Stokie Cumming Mitchell is keeping us all in line.
Your class officers have had great fun organizing our “Zunions,” which started with storytelling with Betty Ann Gatewood Wylie. Nancy Duvall Hargrove led the second session, a discussion of Hemingway’s “The Short Happy Life of Frances McComber, and Lynn Denton told us about her screenplay, “The Milliners.” Our fourth session is coming up on December 6th and will be led by Christine Cozzens, recently retired Dana Professor of English, Vice President for Academic Affairs, and leader of the highly regarded Center for Writing and Speaking at Agnes Scott. She will lead a discussion of Hamnet by Maggie O’Farrel. Mary Beth will send a zoom link for the meeting soon. It has been such fun to see and talk with classmates with whom we do not communicate regularly.
A calendar of Alumnae Weekend events can be found at agnesscottalumnaeweekend.com. At the Reunion Bootcamp, Mary Francis Kerr, Senior Director of Alumnae Relations and Agnes Scott graduate, shared her experience of staying in a dorm room for the weekend. Other members of her class were in
rooms around hers. She said it was both fun and convenient to be on campus for everything. It sounds like a perfect arrangement for all of us out-of-towners. You will be able to register for a dorm room on the Alumnae Weekend website.
In January, our Fund Chair Sandy will send a letter with details about our goal for our class gift. We did an outstanding job at our last reunion, so let’s plan to meet the challenge this time! Be sure to check with your financial advisor about the tax advantages of rolling over any mandatory withdrawals to Agnes Scott.
Registration for the weekend opens March 1st at agnesscottalumnaeweekend.com. Early bird registration ends April 8th and regular registration ends April 25th. Mark these dates on your calendar so they do not slip up on you.
It has been such a pleasure as your Class President to work with Mary Beth, Sandy and Stokie. We have enjoyed working with Anne in planning our Zunions and our reunion weekend. We look forward to seeing you in person at Agnes and catching up on the last five years.
