Dear fellow Agnes Scott Alumna,
We invite you to Agnes Scott’s Alumnae Weekend 2023, May 19-21! As members of the 65th, 70th and 75th Reunion Classes, please join together to celebrate your milestones, while letting the Alumnae Office pick up some of the work.
There are a few changes from reunions past. What changes do I refer to? The dates for Alumnae Weekend (from April to May), the change to who plans your reunion party (the Alumnae Office), and when your reunion party is held (from Saturday night to Saturday morning).
I hope that this to Alumnae Weekend leads to happy gathering with classmates on the Agnes Scott campus this year and a memorable time for all! May that NEVER change!
At the reunion, you may want to compare notes on things you and your classmates took for granted that younger Scotties can’t imagine…such as a single phone on each floor of Inman, no jeans unless they were covered with a raincoat when walking across campus, and female PhDs were called “Miss” or “Mrs.” while the men were called “Dr.”
Enclosed, please find the schedule for the weekend. The registration is online. If you need help, the office is here to assist you! Please call the office and leave a message, or send an email – 404.471.6323 or alumnae@agnesscott.edu. We will get back to you to help you register by phone.
Here are a few Alumnae Weekend highlights:
Friday begins with the Outstanding Alumnae Awards luncheon. In the afternoon, Agnes Scott faculty will be leading class sessions during the “Back to Class” time followed by a time for mingling with new, current, and retiring faculty. For those of you who are members of the Tower Circle Giving Society or the Francis Winship Walters Society, special invitations to a Friday pre-dinner gathering will be forthcoming. For all, these early evening events will be followed by the Anna Young Club Dinner. If your dancing shoes need a workout, all are invited to stay afterwards to an All-Alumnae Dance Party in the Mary Brown Bullock ’66 Science Building and adjacent quad. Staying overnight in a residence hall might be something to consider!
Saturday begins with your class reunion breakfast, featuring mimosas and class photos, in lieu of a class meeting. Of course, if you want to help keep your class connected and strong, please feel free to make that part of the conversation, and let staff members from The Alumnae Office or the Fund for Agnes Scott Office know of your interest! After breakfast, gather in Presser Hall at 11:00 a.m. for the Alumnae Convocation. Convocation includes the annual meeting of the Agnes Scott Alumnae Association, with college updates, Alumnae Board elections and the trophy presentations for giving to the Annual Fund, which provides vital financial support to our beloved alma mater.
The weekend includes the Alumnae Luncheon in Letitia Pate Evans Dining Hall, tours of campus and an opportunity to greet President Lee Zak in the Scott-Sams House. On Sunday morning, wrap up the weekend with a Memorial Service led by College Chaplain Sarah Hooker and a Farewell Brunch.
Please remember golf carts will be available to assist you on campus throughout the weekend. We hope you will make plans to come to many events!
Last year’s class secretary celebrating her 75th reunion shared this: “Don’t worry. Most of us look like we’re in our 80’s with white hair and wrinkles. It will be fun catching up on your activities before and during the pandemic and how you weathered/are weathering it.”
Being together is the point! If you can’t join in the fun, please send an update about yourself to your class secretary:
Clara Ann Starnes Fain ‘58 – fain1958@aol.com
No class secretary for ’53; send any updates to the AR office!
Adele McKee ’48 – adelemckee46@msn.com
If you have questions, please contact the Office of Alumnae Relations at 404.471.6323 or alumnae@agnesscott.edu. We look forward to seeing you in May!
